"Notturno,"
is the most famous movement of Borodins 1881, String Quartet No. 2 in
D major. The solo cello part in the original is distributed to other voices to
maintain student interest. Bowings have been carefully edited by Dr. Priscilla
Howard creating a beautiful and lyrical selection.
Originally
for two pianos, the Borodin Helena Polka
is a jovial piece with typical changes of pace to reflect the dance form. As
the polka is only two and one-half minutes in length, it will serve nicely as a second movement to
the Notturno. All bowings are included and a
Violin3/substitute for Viola part is included to bolster the Viola section.
