Meditating on Psalm 102, "I am like a sparrow alone on the housetop," verse 7 intrigued me. What did the psalmist feel that he compared himself to a lonely sparrow? Sparrows are small. They often gather in large groups. Another image "I have mingled my drink with weeping" also spoke to me.

Like most Psalms of Lament, the psalmist turns from his lament, grief, pain, and fear to a Statement of Confidence. Before God answers, the Psalmist calms himself by faith in the eternal God who will one day change the universe like we discard an old worn out garment for a new one.
