God
So Loved the World by Sir John Stainer (1887) updated August 2020
piano
solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple, performed by the arranger
John
3:16 (For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish, but have eternal life) is beloved by Christians because it
sums up the message of the entire New Testament. Sir John Stainer used the text
for one of the 20 musical compositions in his oratorio: The
Crucifixion: A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer.
God So Loved the World is scored for acapella four part choir or
quartet. Although the musical style was considered out of date in 1887, this
one composition is Stainers most famous work for it expresses with drama and
deep emotion this keystone of the New Testament.
Suitable for preludes, offertories,
concerts, personal meditation. Includes 2 versions 1) piano score letter size 2)
