Product Description

The words to this Christmas carol were written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix and later paired with the traditional English tune "Greensleeves." This arrangement is relatively short but sweet and haunting. After the introduction, the lead trumpet starts the tune playing solo, is gradually joined by the other instruments, and then switches to a counter-melody in the upper register. From there, the trumpets carry most of the responsibility for the melody, although at measure 40 the trombone does take over with the horn playing a fifth above and the tuba providing a base line. The finale recalls the introduction.

This arrangement was completed in 2012, and performance time runs about 1 minute, 42 seconds. This version is also available for brass quintet with a second trombone (instead of Horn in F). For information, contact the arranger, Les Smith, at lessmith@ufl.edu. For more arrangements by Les, enter "Sweetwater Brass Press" (without the quotation marks) in the SheetMusicPlus search box.
