"The Pirate" was written during a piano lesson in 2006. The student composed the first 5 notes of a D minor scale falling back to the initial D. Baker rendered it in D Dorian Mode and the "swash-buckling" nature of the motive, and, "The Pirate" was born. While it is a Grade 1 solo, it can sound far beyond that level.
