I composed "Waltz for Lia" for Lia, one of my students. She asked at a lesson, "How do you compose music?" I said, "Watch!" The result of those sessions was this contemporary "Valse Triste" in A Minor. It has a very cinematic middle section and the accompanying left-hand rhythm and pattern keeps getting more and more active.
