April 4 2018 marked 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. This piece was written as a
reflection on some of the ideals he fought and died for.

The overall idea of the piece is that one voice can lead to great change; one voice can be a catalyst. The
piece starts by layering in the three C flute parts for a melodic trio. At letter A, the full choir joins. The piece
should be played with increasing intensity and building tension throughout. The low flutes should give a
feeling of marching or a heartbeat. At letter D, the piece reaches its climax just before a release leads us
back to the melodic trio. As long as there is a catalyst, there is hope.

Written for piccolo, 3 C flutes, alto flute, bass flute, contra alto, contrabass and sub contrabass flutes.
