Prenez sur moi votre exemple amoureux by Johannes Ockeghem is a stunning example of virtuoso musicality and technique. Although it is an exact canon, it is common for listeners to not notice the strict technique behind the flowing and fluid melodic lines. Historically, Ockeghem (ca. 1420-1497) is considered the musical link between Guillaume Dufay and Josquin des Prés. I have included two transpositions for recorder trio, one for 2 altos and tenor and the other for 2 tenors and bass. Of course, this could be played on 2 bass and contrabass or 2 sopranos and alto recorders. There is a manuscript of the original single line canon on the IMSLP website.
