Bolahenk I was written in 2015 for the recorder virtuoso, Dorothy Oberlinger. The writing is reminiscent of the Turkish ney style, in particular the Bolenk ney based on D. The mostly slow moving phrases are flexible as is the tempo and the durations. Optional ornaments may be added and the overall mood is one of meditation and reflection. The duration is approximarely 8'. This piece may also be played on a voice flute.
