Silent Durations XXXVIII (a Zen experience) for bass saxophone and piano was written for Andreas van Zoelen and Martien Maas who premiered it at the Vosbergen Museum in Eelde, Holland on May 4, 2011. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. Silent Durations XXXVIII for bass saxophone and piano presents these two instruments as unique instrumental voices but also interweaves their sounds to create the illusion of only one player. The work demands a very high level of chamber music ability. The duration is 7'50. Silent Durations XXXVIII was premiered by Andreas van Zoelen and Martien Maas at Vosbergen Museum, Eelde, the Netherlands on May 14, 2011.
