Derek Hasted writes "First made famous by Ben E. King, and following in his footsteps, Bing Crosby, Julio Iglesias and more, this piece is said by its fans to be one of the finest love songs. It has featured in a number of films and has appeared in the charts many times too.

My arrangement suits 4 guitars (or a large ensemble). The Guitar 4 part is also supplied in bass clef for upright bass or bass guitar, playing an octave below a conventional guitar. One can double up this line by playing it on guitar and on bass for a richer sound.

The beguine-like rhythm is split between Guitars 3 and 4, and the chords are all found in the first three positions, frequently with open strings. Guide fingers make many of the chords easy to find.

Each section is arranged slightly differently to the previous and there is a glorious stereo effect in the final choruses which will be enhanced if Guitar 1 and Guitar 2 are to the outside of the ensemble on opposite sides.

My arrangement is based on a version that was played in concert by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra - its pretty much guaranteed to get feet tapping in the audience...
