Perhaps this, as one one of Robert Burns' most sad songs, lamenting the loss of lives in the Jacobite Rebellion, is very seldom sung because the folk tune that he found and used for the words was not as good as the poetry. Now, set to a haunting new melody this version has been described by the management of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway Scotland, as the definitive version of this song - high praise indeed.
