At the start of every practice session, choose one key to play the 10 patterns in.
Either:
Work through the book in order, which will take around a month if you play one key every day, and will enable you to play comfortably in any key.
Or if you're working on a piece in a tricky key, then warming up in that key will get your mind and fingers prepared.
Every practice session, choose one of the following styles to play all the patterns in, except Pattern #3, which you should play in all six styles every practice session:
Both hands legato (smooth)
Both hands staccato (detached)
Right hand legato, left hand staccato
Right hand staccato, left hand legato
Right hand forte (loud), left hand piano (quiet)
Right hand piano, left hand forte
Playing different styles in each hand will help you gain independence between your hands - an essential skill for all pianists.
Make sure you play every note evenly - no note should be louder, quieter, faster or slower than the notes around it.
