Product Description
Christmas Brought the Stillness is my first original song for which I have written both the lyrics and the music. It is scored for voice, tenor recorder, violin, and guitar. In our ensemble, the vocalist also plays tenor recorder and plays Recorder 1 on the instrumental bridge. Alternatively, you could have a recorder player double the entire vocal line. The recorder parts can also be played on flute. This download includes a score (7 pages), 3 parts of 2 pages each, and a lyrics sheet. Christmas Brought the Stillness is a reflection on the December holidays as I experienced them as a child in my birthplace,The Netherlands. There were two celebrations. St. Nicholas Day (or Sinterklaas Dag) was observed on December 6th, but children received gifts the evening before, accompanied by much fanfare and suspense. In the days leading up to this celebration, we would also put out our shoe (not stocking), in which we would leave a carrot for Sinterklaas's horse and in return receive sweets such as sugar beasts. By contrast, Christmas was a contemplative holiday celebrated on December 25 and 26, with no gifts but much reverence. I departed my birthplace at the age of nine but have not forgotten the distinct atmosphere of these two holidays. I want to offer Christmas Brought the Stillness in time for the 2015 season. I hope you enjoy it. If you perform Christmas Brought the Stillness at your church or gathering this season, you will be one of the first to launch a future classic! Peace on Earth, Dorothy van Joolen Barth, November 2015.
