Songs from Euterpe - Sixteen Solos for Meditation, Ritual, or Sacred Dance is named after the Muse of Lyric Poetry, usually seen carrying an ancient flute. It includes one song named after each of the nine muses. An interlude entitled Pegasus (played in the accompanying sound sample on soprano recorder) leads to the second section of the anthology, Island Gaia, which offers six songs with a meditative quality inspired by a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. A title page, Table of Contents, and Preface are also appended to this anthology. Partial downloads of this anthology are also available: (1) Muse Dance for the four tunes suitable for belly dance and (2) Island Gaia for the six tunes inspired by the Big Island. This music is intended for solo flute or recorder. Recorder players may switch between soprano, alto, and tenor instruments according to preference and the range of the piece. The tempo indications are meant merely to guide your departure on your own meditative journey. About the Composer: Dorothy van Joolen Barth is a classical violinist and recorder player. Born in Amsterdam, she now resides and performs in California. She has arranged six volumes of Celtic traditional music for two instruments and has composed three volumes of original music.
