Product Description

This original piece is a synthesis of two traditional Colonial period songs. Uniquely combined to form a short medley of marching songs. Can be played as a string quartet or can add bass for quintet. Would work equally well for string orchestra.
The lower strings imitate walking columns of marching soldiers in Revolutionary early American times. The upper strings enter with the catching song of The Tale of John Burgoyne who was the arrogant British General who the Americans defeated at the battle of Saratoga in 1777. It was a turning point in the war and the song of John Burgoyne with mocking lyrics about his defeat became quite popular with the colonists. It survived and lyrics were changed during the american Civil War to become The Girl I Left Behind. The other popular song in this medley is the well known Yankee Doodle. This is a fun piece to play and works well in an education setting or just as a stand alone piece.
