Product Description

Gabriel Fauré composed this Sicilienne in 1893 as incidental music for Molières play Le Bourgeois gentilhomme. It was first published in 1898 after it had been adapted as incidental music for inclusion in Maurice Maeterlinck's play Pelléas et Mélisande. This new arrangement for early intermediate piano solo is based on the composers own transcription of his orchestral score. Some accidentals omitted erroneously in the original published edition have now been added and, although some elements have been simplified (including the time signature), the harmony and stylistic character of the music remain unchanged. In order to make this music more accessible to early intermediate pianists, the middle section of the original has not been included and the ending has been simplified. Those wishing to play a more complete version of this Sicilienne might like to try the intermediate arrangement in this series.
