The group Kansas made a recording of this song by Kerry Livgren. The popularity of the song has stood the test of time. The lyrics refer to how quickly time passes and is a lovely reminder to take each day as it comes and make the most of it.

The arrangements I am working on this year are songs that I consider to be important. This song is one of my favourites--I loved the Kansas version of it--with the violin, voice, and two guitars.

My arrangement is written in 4/4 time with an almost constant left hand arpeggio bass as a nod to the guitar arrangement. The verse and chorus are repeated three times, each time a little bit differently and explores the full range of the piano. I write this for intermediate to early advanced players--it is a good challenge! There are tricky double-note passages, and some interesting syncopated rhythms. There are full four-note chords in some areas and you need a quick left hand to make some of the harmonic changes!
