Product Description

Composed by Ian Deterling. Published by Deterling Music.

  • Electronic Equipment needed:

    - Sound System

    - Recording Equipment

    - Recording Program (or equivalent means) that can play recorded audio backwards

  • This piece for piano and electronics is in two parts:

    • Part 1. - The performer has the option to either prerecord Part. 1. ahead of time or to be recorded during the actual performance. Either way, a recording of Part 1. will be needed for Part 2. Special care must be taken in recording Part 1. so that there is no rubato and that all note values are as literal as possible.

    • Part 2. - The recording of Part 1. needs to be reversed. Part 2. begins with the recording of Part 1. played backwards over the sound system. This reversed recording should start immediately after the end of Part 1. to have as little of a pause between the two parts as possible. The volumes of the piano and the recording should be the same.

    • Special note - Although recording the pianist on the same piano he/she will be performing this piece on is preferred, if the necessary recording equipment is not available, please email iandeterling@gmail.com for a reversed recording of Part 1.

  • Nosferatu is piece for piano and electronics that illustrates the character of Count Orlok in Nosferatu: eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror), a German expressionist film made in 1921 (released in 1922) that was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Count Orlok is a vampire of folklore; an undead corpse that spreads plague and disease and brings death with him.

  • Piano, electronics.

  • Duration: about 11'00"

  • Full score and individual piano part included.
