2017 Holiday Contest Entry
Tchaikovskys Nutcracker is universally popular and has
become one of his most famous compositions. The ballet tells the story of a
young girl who receives a nutcracker (in the form of a soldier) for Christmas.
She falls asleep and dreams that all the Christmas presents come to life. Since
the music of the Suite is so familiar, there is hardly any need to offer any
additional description beyond the titles of each movement: March, Dance of the
Sugar Plum Fairy, Russian Dance (Trepak), Chinese Dance (Tea), Spanish Dance (Chocolate)
and Waltz of the Flowers.
This arrangement has been carefully edited and abridged to
insure that the music is idiomatic for brass. Your quintet may perform just one
movement, all 6, or any combination you wish. And, for the price, 6 movements is a real bargain!!
The Chinese Dance has been scored for B-flat piccolo
trumpet, but it may also be played on a muted trumpet.
This arrangement comes with both B-flat and C trumpet parts,
as well as an optional timpani/percussion part (suspended cymbal, tambourine, castanets
and triangle). The timpani/percussion part may easily be played by one
performer.
Performance time: 10:00. Published by Dorm 40 Music,
