The dance tune is very well known and provides an exciting opening before the hymn. Here, the orchestra builds to a climax with a full-textured rendition, after which a new version of the jig is heard, but now transformed into a reel. This is a most appealing and well-crafted overture, always very suitably harmonized. It is a glowing orchestral tribute to Ireland's patron Saint.(Duration 5:00)
