Enjoyable parts for all, a variety of basic bowings (two-note slurs, staccato quarter notes, slurred staccato), and a variety of dynamics make this an excellent choice for developing ensemble precision with early intermediate string orchestras. Entirely in first position (except for bass), Classic Dance could also provide a rewarding challenge for the final concert of the year for an outstanding beginning string orchestra. As was common in 18th century orchestra music, the cello and bass parts are virtually identical making Classic Dance musically satisfying even when performed without bass, whether by a string quartet or by a small string orchestra lacking basses.
