The contemporary harmonies in the piano accompaniment help give this solo a much more mature sound than most solos at this level. While musically substantial enough to be suitable for younger high school players, Call to Glory's modest technical demands make it suitable for middle school and junior high school trumpet players. Upper range is only up to concert "D" (4th space E for the Bb trumpet) with one optional concert "Eb". Rhythms include eighth, quarter, half, and whole notes and rests (no 16th notes, dotted quarter or dotted eighth notes, or syncopation...yet, this is a very mature-sounding work). Trumpet solo with piano accompaniment. An excellent choice for contest or studio recital! (Grade 2)
