Product Description

This is a patriotic Russian (Czarist) piece written in 1915. It describes the Imperial Russian naval vessel "Slava" ("Glory") on patrol. While supposedly written for "military wind orchestra", no known copy for band exists. The only copy is a version arranged for piano four-hands by Konstantin Chernov in the Russian State Library. "Slava" is a programmatic work that starts with a patriotic hymn, a bugle call to duty, on patrol, a bugle call to quarters, dangerous seas, a bugle call to secure from quarters, and a triumphant return to "Mother Russia." This arrangement was made at the request of Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School "Warrior" Band in El Centro, CA. It was premiered on May 16, 2014, at Wilson Jr. H.S. by the Imperial High School "Tiger" Band, Brooke Kofford directing. The work is moderately difficult, mainly because of the use of double flats.
