This Austrian Carol is written for an SAB choir with an optional solo, and can also be used as a vocal trio. At two and a half minutes long, it is a fine piece for worship or concert settings. Harmonies are fairly easy to learn, and the antiphonal refrain is presented with melody taken in turn by treble and baritone voices. Its simplicity makes it an excellent choice for your young choir, or for a choir looking to add repertoire quickly. The piano accompaniment is moderately easy, and integral to the harmonies of the piece. The lyrics present the baby Jesus as the newborn king, with the shepherds, angels and Mary all playing their parts in the drama. An excellent choice of repertoire for a group wishing for a traditional sounding song that is still a bit different than the usual Christmas carol.
