If You Were the Only Girl in the World was published in 1916 just prior to the beginning of World War I. It was a popular and poignant love song throughout the First World War and has been commemorated in two television productions, "Upstairs,  Downstairs" and "Downton Abbey". This arrangement for intermediate piano follows the original publication in 4/4 time, then transcribes the melodies into 3/4 time as a waltz.
