Product Description

"Anitra's Dance" is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt, Op. 23, written in 1875 as incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name, and was also included as the first of four movements in Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46.

The piece was originally composed for strings and triangle, butin 1888 there were also published arrangements for piano (both two and four hands).

Despite the almost graceful innocence of the opening, the piece is gradually spiced up with increasingly more "distorted bewitching chromaticity". This helps to suggest the Anitra-figure's ambiguity and the kinship to the green-clad woman, a troll princess.
