Product Description

Rumba de Ruth is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone.

This duet is based on the traditional Rumba street music of Cuba. Rumberos sing semi-improvised melodies over the Rumba clave rhythm with other percussion added, and the accompanying dance is an integral part of the performance. The rhythms of Cuban Rumba have travelled all over the world, providing the foundations for Son and Salsa and the ballroom Rhumba among many other styles.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady clave rhythm is implied throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style of the Rumba. Melodies are clearly articulated and played with passion. Rumba de Ruth has a performance time of just under three minutes. You can listen to the Clarinet version of this duet by following the YouTube link above.
