Product Description
The Christmas Concerto is the popular title of one of
the 12 Concerto Grossi written by Arcangelo
Corelli. This Concerto in
G minor bears the inscription, "Made for the Night of Christmas". Since
the Concerti were first published after Corellis death in 1711 we have no way
of knowing when it was first performed.
This arrangement is of the Allegro second movement and is flexibly
scored as either a Duet for two Alto Saxophones with optional piano accompaniment
or as a solo for Alto Saxophone with piano. The score and all parts are combined in
one pdf file. The linked full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this arrangement.
Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and
above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms
are straightforward, and sound best played fast. The constant movement of the piano
bass part is challenging. All players will enjoy experiencing the rich texture
of Corellis counterpoint. The
overall performance time is around three minutes if played at full tempo.
