Product Description

Dave Brubeck began experimenting with modern time signatures and harmonies in the 1950's and '60's. His "Take Five" album of 1959 was a revelation of what jazz could be in a modern sense. Blue Rondo A La Turk was on that album and uses a rhythm Brubeck heard on the streets of Turkey: 9/8 time, but divided into 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3. I have given this an advanced rating due to the challenge of playing these rhythms tightly at a fast tempo. It is set for four saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone). Also, since this version takes after one done vocally by Al Jarreau there is a section where the 1st and 2nd clarinets are invited to sing!
