Product Description

"It Isn't Easy Being a Cuckoo" is a fun set of five pieces that span music history over seven centuries. Many composers have used the minor 3rd call of the cuckoo. The cuckoo bird has been treated badly, though. It has been associated with lunatics and guess what a group of cuckoos is called: an asylum. Too bad, really, because their distinctive song is a favorite musical motive. There is almost 20 minutes of music! The sheet music comes with score and parts and was arranged by John Gibson. Set for woodwind quartet (flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon) Selections: 1."Sumer is icumen in" - anon. 2."Capriccio on the Cuckoo's Call" - Frescobaldi (1624) 3.Allegro from "The Cuckoo and the Nightingale" - Handel (1739) 4."The Cuckoo in the Forest" - Saint-Saens (1886) 5."The Cuckoo's Courtship Waltz" - Sofge (1874) 6."On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring" - Delius (1912) 7."In Praise of Higher Understanding" - Mahler 1899)
