Product Description

An alternating sequence of pensive 3/4 time and jolly 7/4 time, ending with the 3/4 as the thinker finally falls asleep.

The work is based on my earlier setting of Psalm 70 (Be pleased, O God, to deliver me) in which the psalmist moves from despair to hope.
Be pleased, O God, to deliver me!
O Lord, make haste to help me!
Let them be put to shame and confusion who seek my life!
Let them be turned back and brought to dishonour who desire my hurt!
Let them be appalled because of their shame who say, "Aha, Aha!"
May all who seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee!
May those who love thy salvation say evermore, "God is great!"
But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God!
Thou art my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not tarry!
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be
World without end, Amen
