Product Description

Hans Sitt might not be a well-known composer to wind players, as he composed music almost entirely for the strings. Born in Prague into a musical family, he was a violinist, violist, teacher, and composer. His father was a well-known violin maker. Although not pushed into music, he chose music as his profession, and was one of the most sought-after violin teachers of his time. Along with many positions as a performing violinist, he was also an orchestral conductor in several European countries.

This sweet piece was originally composed in 1891 for viola and piano and is the 6th movement of six in the Album Leaves composition. Arranged here for flute and piano, it is a wonderful short piece to play for many occasions. This piece is geared towards the intermediate-advanced musician. Although written in the same key, this arrangement differs from the original in a few ways:

The accompaniment is marked with many dotted quarter notes with staccato marks instead of eighth notes and 2 eighth rests. This was done to keep the score from looking too busy.
Notes from the original piece were removed to facilitate breathing. Notes and frills were also added towards the end of the piece.
The original ending has a 6-measure ritardando and diminuendo. This arrangement's tempo plugs on and ends on a high note at full volume. After playing a gazillion notes at blazing speed, it seems anticlimactic to seem to run out of steam at the end. However, if you would prefer to be true to the composer's original version, the ritardando and diminuendo is marked with a large asterisk.

The complete collection is sold under "Six Album Leaves".
