Bedrich Smetana was a Czech composer who is mostly known for his opera, The Bartered Bride.

Andante was probably written just before he left Prague to live in a town in Sweden, during a difficult time in his personal life. This piece was originally written for piano, but translates well as an instrumental duet with piano accompaniment. Both flutes have a chance to play the melody with a supportive and steady piano background.
