Product Description

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is a song by the English rock band the Beatlesfrom their 1969 album Abbey Road. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to the LennonMcCartney partnership.

The song is about a student named Maxwell Edison who commits murders with a hammer, with the dark lyrics disguised by an upbeat sound. McCartney described the song as symbolic of the downfalls of life, being "my analogy for when something goes wrong out of the blue, as it so often does"

You either love it or you hate it!!

Apparently the 3 other Beatles detested it.....

This is the version you need for your clarinet quartet.

Arranged straight, it needs to be played in a swung style.

For standard clarinet quartet 3 Bb and one bass.

Transposed into C from the original in D, so clarinets remain in D. The verse melody is shared in turn by the 3 standard clarinets, and the bass maintains a steady rhythm.

I have added a countermelody in verses 2 and 3, which IS audible on the original record, but not on any of the piano transcriptions.

I have also harmonised a little of verse 3 so that clarinet 1 plays a descant above..

Enjoy
