This collection follows on from the collection The Island of Dreams, also available from the same publisher. Return to the Island of Dreams consists of ten elementary cello pieces which are musical sketches of a magical island somewhere in South East Asia. The pieces can be performed entirely in first position. They are intended as supplementary material to your usual teaching materials. Theres plenty of contrasting music for the student recital or an end-of-semester concert. Also, these pieces could be used for sight-reading practice for intermediate students. Your cello students are sure to find these pieces enjoyable and challenging. Every piece has a short keyboard introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible. Dynamic markings are used from the start, and some articulations marks (notably staccato) are used. Several pieces have a few measures rest in the middle to give the player a break and add musical contrast and also to give experience of counting empty bars.
