Valentine Serenade is a delightful pastoral piece which would be an effective encore or program item for any occasion. It would of course be especially appropriate for birthdays or any musical occasion around Valentines Day. Scored for oboe, bassoon and piano with an optional double bass part or bass guitar (including guitar chords), this 3/4 piece is in E flat major but ventures through many other keys as it wends its way along. The piano and bass parts have been purposely kept as simple as possible but the oboe and bassoon parts are for players who are comfortable with chromatic notes, especially in the short middle section.

The oboe part has a range from D4 (one note above middle C) to Bb5 (just above the treble staff) and the bassoon part has a range of B2 (second line of the bass staff) to E4 (two notes above middle C). With a running time of just over two minutes this romantic piece with its rich harmonies is sure to charm audiences and give the woodwind excellent practice in developing a smooth singing tone quality.
