Product Description

Vain Queen Cassiopeia boasted that her beauty surpassed that of the Nereids (sea nymphs). Poseidon, angered, sent a sea monster to destroy her land. King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia chained their daughter Andromeda to a rock as a sacrifice to the sea monster to appease Poseidon. Luckily, Perseus heroically rescued Andromeda. Cassiopeias punishment for her vanity was to spend all of eternity on her throne in the sky, half the year hanging upside down. The 5-star W shape of her throne can be seen in the northern hemisphere sky. You can draw Ws or Ms as per bars 1, 2, 31 and 32 wherever her theme recurs, if you like. This piece is written in Locrian mode, creating a dissonant, dark and unstable mood. This Intermediate Piano Solo is from 88 Constellations a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano). Performance Time 1 1/2 minutes. 2 pages. A nice recital set could include Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Cepheus, Perseus and Cetus. (General Instructional, 21st Century, Modern, Repertoire, Recital, Modal)
