Product Description

With this sheet music, you can play "Miserere mei, Deus" by Gregorio Allegri on piano. It's a carefully created piano arrangement of the famous Renaissance composition. Allegri composed the setting of Psalm 50 for two choirs in the 1630s (during the reign of Pope Urban VIII) for exclusive performances in the Sistine Chapel. It was forbidden to transcribe the piece or to perform it anywhere else, creating quite a mystery around it! In 1770, a young Mozart (14 years old) heard the piece during a service in the Sistine Chapel. Afterwards, he wrote it down completely from memory, establishing his reputation as a musical prodigy. "Miserere mei, Deus" is a beautiful, solemn piece, and it sounds wonderful on piano!
