Yektenia's text is taken from the Liturgy of John Chrysostom in English translation. Direct translation of this genre title is Little Litany. It combined the deacon's Invitation to the Prayer from Eastern Orthodox tradition and the People's Prayer from the Episcopalian rite. The syle is related to style antico of the Byzantinian psaltica. The mood is majestic and didactic, with a significant rhetorical component. Can be performed before or as a part of the People's Prayer. The accompaniment can be given to piano, organ, or strings.
