This stunning a cappella arrangement of Killing Me Softly with His Song was penned in 1974 for The Singers Unlimited and still holds up as one of the most beautiful Gene Puerling charts ever written! It was recorded on their debut album, A Cappella II (and contained in the Magic Voices box set). This is NOT a transcription, but an authentic edition created from the handwritten manuscript of Gene Puerling. The front half of the piece features a female soloist prominently delivering the melody while accompanied by 5- to 6-part accompaniment. The middle section features a melancholy harmonized wordless melody duet with 5-part accompaniment. The highly energized final section features one or more vocalists on the melody with 6-part accompaniment that expands to a 9-part accompaniment. Although there are many splits, the harmony is split into 3 pods of 3 parts, making the learning far more accessible than the numbers indicate. The challenges of this piece are not insignificant, but the result is most definitely worth the cost! (Level V)
