"Run My Own Race" (with lyrics) written by Rick Jeppesen. This song was inspired by a teaching moment between a Mother (Heidi) & Daughter (Hadley). They were walking down their long lane to the mailbox when Hadley said, "Let's race to the mailbox", and off she went. Every time Hadley looked back to see where her Mother was, she would stumble a little bit and would refocus her attention forward. Heidi called to Hadley and said, "Don't look back; just run your own race. Keep your focus ahead and you'll be fine." After they were walking back, Heidi related this experience to how life can be, and that we need to "run our own race" and not compare ourselves to anyone else and to be true to ourselves. So it is with all of us. RUN YOUR OWN RACE. This song is dedicated to Heidi and Hadley.

Run My Own Race written by Rick Jeppesen

Verse 1
I used to hide behind a borrowed face, Tried to win in a stranger's embrace.
But now I see the light so clear, It's time to banish doubt and fear.
I've chased shadows down a winding lane, Tripped on mistakes and called it pain.
But the rearview's not where I belong, I've found my rhythm in my own song.

Chorus
Gonna run my own race, keep my focus ahead,
Not looking back at who's chasing instead.
The past is a ghost I no longer see,
Looking behind just brings regret to me.

Verse 2
I wore disguises, tried to fit a lie, Lost myself under someone elses sky.
Now Im breathing breath thats truly mine, Breaking chains, leaving the past behind.
Oh, the road is open wide and clear, Every mile takes me closer to here.
No more shadows in the rearview glass, Im living now, not tied to the past.

(Chorus twice)

I wore disguises, tried to fit a lie, Lost myself under someone elses sky.
Now Im breathing breath thats truly mine, Breaking chains, leaving the past behind.
Oh, the road is open wide and clear, Every mile takes me closer to here.
No more shadows in the rearview glass, Im living now, not tied to the past.

So take your mask and lay it down, Find the truth that you can call your own.
We're all running in our own time and space, Chasing dreams, finding our own place.
Oh, the road is open wide and clear, Every mile takes me closer to here.
No more shadows in the rearview glass, Im living now, not tied to the past.
