It is my second work of great length. The Kyrie has an archaic flavor with its
decidedly modal air. The Gloria and the Credo are both very contrasting in their
various parts. The Sanctus and the Benedictus share the same music for the
Hossana, in the manner of the classical Renaissance masses. The Agnus Dei closes
the mass with a very contemplative air.

This work is dedicated to the memory of Modesta Bor (1926 - 1998), who was not
only my composition teacher and one of my best friends, but also one of the most
important composers from the XXth century Venezuelan music. In 2000, it was
awarded the Mayors Prize for Composition, and it was premiered by Cantarte,
under my conduction, in December 6th, 2000.
