Product Description

Darius Milhaud is one of few composers whose exposure to Afro-American music was not restricted to the dance music popular in Europe. During the course of his life, Milhaud experienced many of the sources at first hand - Brazil, the Caribbean and the USA. That his Trois Rag Caprices are dedicated to the French impresario Jean Wiener is surely due to the fact that, by forming a piano duo together with Clement Doucet for jazz improvisation after the First World War, Wiener was one of the first people in France to stimulate an interest in jazz. Like other compositions by Milhaud, the Trois Rag Caprices lay far more store on expression than on constructional rules.
