Even easier than Smith's popular late-intermediate level arrangement, this short but satisfying excerpt from Elgar's famously intense and poignant "Enigma" Variation no. 9 is straightforward enough that the player will be able to focus on matters such as dynamic gradation and tonal control. In C Major with a total of 2 accidentals, the arrangement achieves a surprisingly sonorous effect with a mostly 3-note texture, expanding briefly to 4. Written-out "finger-pedalling" makes the use of the damper pedal optional. An octave span in the right hand is desirable.
