Product Description

A folk song known variously as "No John, no", "Oh no, John, no", or "No ,Sir, no" - arranged for SSSA or SSAA four part choir.
This jolly folk song is a conversation between the amorous "John" and a lady he wishes to marry, but there is an unexpected obstacle to his success - whatever he says to her, she is obliged to answer "No". The couple overcome this problem as the song progresses and joyfully agree to marry at the end.
The altos sing the part of John in unison, and the Lady is sung in harmony by three equal soprano/alto parts. All of the vocal lines are within mezzo range and the only harmonies are in the different versions of "no" sung by the sopranos. The piano accompaniment provides necessary colour and the movement towards a happy conclusion is signposted by key changes.
I also have a version of this arranged for a mixed choir with three women's parts and one line (the part of John) sung by men.
