Product Description

Fonti di poesia (Sources of Poetry), op. 2, is a five-movement suite for reciting voice and piano by Caterina Barontini.

This work moves further along the path begun with Azure as the Sky, but while op. 1 was sprung from gratitude, this suite stems from the tender feeling of affinity among sources of poetry, which can be arts, works, or the places of imagination from which art arises.

Both the music and text of this work are informed by a longing for the serene and eternal mystery that feeds creativity.
The poem aims to point out that, without feeling the tender relationship among sources of poetry, we are prisoners of pain and only able to cry, hoping "That my hand tremors would become a quake, / Or my drops of pain a swell".

The theme of pain, which in op. 1 was evoked by the line "O voice dividing me", here springs from the image of the "walls of thought", the barriers to creativity. From this fact, an evolution of musical composition stems out, so that, in this work, pain is not expressed only through melodic accents. As an example, in the fourth movement, we can find cold and static fifth chords (the wall), a crescendo of dissonant chromatisms in the lower register of the piano (the quake), and moanings sliding downward (tears).

But as soon as the soul opens and listens to the silent dialogue among the sources of poetry, the time of pain is over: their perpetual syntony testifies that "sincere smiles, / Living hearts and a wise patience" are stronger than any quake and can reduce every wall to dust.
