A prayer for a soloist. In the last verse of the song the singer asks for the understanding of why He sent his word. If we read Psalms 107: 17-22 we see that when they were near death and cried out to him he sent His Word to man and healed them and delivered them. To take it farther, when we read John3: 16-17, we see that he sent Jesus, who is the word, to make it an eternal and not a finite reason as it was in the Psalms. Because, the phrase "And healed them...." is a past tense phrase indicating an action that has already occurred, while "that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" expresses an endless potential or purpose of healing. This answers the question of why he sent Jesus/the word to us.
