Product Description
What it is:
Satirical musical in the topsy-turvy lyric style of Gilbert & Sullivan with a modern twist in both plot and music. Vocal score with piano accompaniment, and full libretto provided with the score.
Suited to enjoyable amateur performance
Witty, outrageously funny sometimes, occasionally outrageous, but with serious issues addressed beneath the fun and topsy-turveydom. Songs pitched and suited to amateur and (senior) High School performance.
Synopsis
From the dawn of the internet, at the turn of the century, comes this musical, once topical, now resurrected for a glimpse into a distant, innocent past--to which there is no returning. Yet, with the smartphone but a distant dream, the seeds of our present social-media-driven destruction were evident even then.
Come, discover the rampant egos, the shifting alliances and betrayals, the trolls and traps, the virtual cruelties and the email flames permanently burning through the keyboards of the immoderate, unmoderated internet newsgroups!
Within an unreal Internet reality, two sailboaters battle for the souls and the leadership of the rabble of wannabes who make up a sailboating email discussion group. Actual and virtual realities blur and merge as they struggle. Both fighters have intentions valid on their own terms, but both are doomed by their own personal flaws. And both are hamstrung by their manipulators, by the stupidity and cowardice of their audience, and, in the end, by bureaucratic lack of humour.
Not even the best efforts of the heroine, the only Newsgroup subscriber with a conscience, can save the fighters, the manipulators, the whole newsgroup, and herself, from ultimate disaster. But it's all virtual, after all.
