It became widely popular through its recording by Cannonball Adderley and his quintet, and it's known for blending jazz, soul, and gospel influences in a way that was accessible to a mainstream audience. This arrangement features a fat, bluesy horn texture with two solo sections for any player. The drum part is a Fatback/Rock groove made familiar by James Brown, Buddy Rich and others. A real shouter! Written for "Little Big Band". This format allows for a big sound using a cut down ensemble of 6 horns: 2 Trumpets, Alto, Tenor and Bari Sax., Trombone plus rhythm section. Playable by rhythm section and as few as 3 horns (tpt. alto sx, trb. Then tenor sx., bari sx, and 2nd tpt.). Lead Trumpet up to A5 (written). Alternate parts are included. Intermediate level.
